"The Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity is one of the most influential organizations among
Colored Americans. It receives only graduate members, and the Boules are located
in the leading cities like New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Denver, Los Angeles, Detroit,
Cleveland, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Memphis and Atlanta. The Boule usually
consists of about twenty professionals men and sometimes businessmen of a pretty
high type. Their meetings are mostly social but they exercise a great deal of influence
in public matters. Among their members are a large number of leading Negroes? Among
the members are leading lawyers, physicians, a few judges, etc. Every year they
hold a convention which is attended by the men and their wives and unmarried daughters."
From Archon W.E.B.DuBois (while a member of Kappa Boule) 1937
